Purpose
Our project is to design a robot that will take 4-6 weeks to construct, using only the kit provided, and have Mr. Croke's approval.
Our choice
We had a variety of topics we discussed but we eventually chose a safe. The idea was to place items inside of it and having to pass a series of tests to open it up.
The prototype
Our prototype is simple. It is a 5 x 5 x 5 cube. Consisting of lego bricks 1 dot thick (a dot is the unit each brick uses for size, aprox. 1/4") of varying colors. The top consisting of 1/8" high plates. In one corner a 16 dots x 14 dots plate door is held at a slight angle, due to the 1/4" high hinge on the edge of the box. The plate is consists of three 8 dots by 14 dots plates ( center one over laping by a single dot between the two). On the side opposite to the door is the light sensor with a thin wire attaching the sensor to the cube behind it. The sensor is a rectangular prism with a light bulb on one end and a jack on the other. On the inside we hold our NXT brick secured by four pins.
Prototype problems
Our prototype encountered a problem. This came as a suprise to us when the door went flying into my partners face! When the motor activated, it moved too fast, causing the door too fly off. We plan on correcting this by slowing down the motor. This will be done within the program and by reducing it's power level. Hopefully we don't have to repeat this again.
What I would like to change
The only thing I would like too change is the size of the box. I would have made the box too be bigger so that it would hold more things. I would have also made it larger so that the light sesor would be recessed making it a smooth box.
The plan
Step 1
First we had to design the body.
Step 2
Then we placed motors on the inside. The motors would be used to open the door.
Step 3
A touch sensor and a light sensor were added to unlock the safe.
Step 4
A sonic sensor is placed so that if the door is forced open an alarm goes off.
Final product
Here is our final product.
The program
Here is the program we used.
Go!Animate
For our video presentations we are using Go!Animate, an online movie making tool. This allows us to choose a setting, characters and outr diolouge. Go!Animate can be found on www.goanimate.com.

Scary new developements in robot technology.
According to Slate Magazine's The Big Robot Questions by Patrick Lin and The Most Human like Robot ever by Kennykpz1979 On YouTube, Robots have become even more lifelike. Soon they will be so life like that we may have to start considering them humans. But is that right?
I personally believe that it is scary. I like to differentiate between the two because I don't want everyone in my life to be in question. Robots think differently than us, no matter how understanding they seem. We haven't unlocked the secrets of our own minds. How can we know how to make a robot follow a moral code? If it is so intelligent it may choose not to follow it's original programing. We won’t know whether or not were dealing with a murderer or a violent robot. Not to mention accidents. We can't try a robot in court; therefore it is exempt to our laws. It can do anything and its only threat is shutting them down. If we can stop them. Robot made for industrial work would obviously be much stronger than a human. That, combined with a metal exoskeleton would make the police hard pressed to destroy them. Maybe I'm being paranoid. I think its better safe than sorry.
